From 2021, the Richard Mille and Ferrari partnership unites two engineering giants, each driven by a relentless pursuit of technological innovation, milestone design and unparalleled performance.
In 2022, this alliance unveiled its first masterpiece, the RM UP-01 Ultraflat Ferrari – a high quality replica watches that is just 1.75 mm thick, astonishing industry observers and fans of both brands.
Now, the second creation of this collaboration reinterprets Richard Mille's most sophisticated high complication format, the Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph, through a dynamic creative exchange between Maranello and Les Breuleux, resulting in the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari.
A Milestone in the Partnership
The RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari will be limited to 75 pieces in micro-blasted and polished grade 5 titanium with a case in Carbon TPT®; another 75 pieces will be made in Carbon TPT®, a lightweight and durable thin-layer composite material exclusively for Richard Mille.
“We have two cases that express two very different personalities: the titanium case for the ‘gentleman driver' spirit and the carbon fiber case for a higher energy attitude,” said Julien Boillat, Richard Mille's Technical Director of Cases.
Ferrari's Centro Stile design center played a major role in the design of every key element of the watch, from the overall aesthetic to details such as the crown, hands, and strap with the Purosangue seat motif, all of which represent their stylistic influences. A space deliberately left open during the movement's development was filled with a titanium plate laser-engraved with the Prancing Horse logo, whose shape was inspired by the 499P's rear wing. Thanks to the deep creative and technical exchange between Richard Mille and Ferrari, the RM 43-01 brings together subtle yet dynamic visual and technical elements drawn from the automotive brand's unrivaled technical expertise.
“Collaborations like this are based not only on similarities in values, but also on visual similarities between a Ferrari engine or component and elements used in a watch,” said Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari's Chief Design Officer. “Anything that has a technical purpose in terms of performance can also be beautiful. The concept of functional beauty is something we really like.” ”
The focus was on enhancing the three-dimensional effect of the movement design, with a variety of surface treatments, finishes and contrasting details inspired by the complex geometry of Ferrari engine blocks and crankcases.
The metal finish of the baseplate echoes the industrial precision of sand-cast engine components, while the micro-blasted bridges are reminiscent of the reinforced matte surface of Ferrari engine covers. The angular structure, decorated with raised ridges, contrasting tones and tiny X-shaped supports, and punctuated by gold Allen screws, directly echoes the patterns, parts and extruded details on Ferrari engine blocks and crankcases.replica luxury watches
On the front, the clutch wheel of the V8 engine reflects the design of the barrel jewel setting, while the dynamic, angular exterior details of cars such as the 488 challenge Evo, Daytona SP3 and SF90 Stradale reflect elements of the case shape, buttons and hour markers. Like the tachometer that dominates the dashboard of a modern Ferrari, the skeletonized 30 The minute totalizer stands out on the dial and is the striking three-dimensional key to the chassis layout.
Julien Boillat comments: “The Ferrari team has worked closely with our experts for two years on this new project. When we design a watch, we find new ways to improve performance and discover new materials that can further increase durability. I have to say, it's been a real thrill to embark on this adventure with Ferrari as our co-pilot. ”
An engine to the extreme
For Richard Mille and Ferrari, the Tourbillon Split-seconds Chronograph was seen as the essential foundation for a new timepiece. It is rooted in the seamless fusion of two of watchmaking's most complex and legendary high complications: the spinning wonder of the tourbillon and the pinnacle of the chronograph, with its split-seconds hand for recording split times, its dazzling movement architecture and its deep automotive heritage.
The RM43-01 movement was designed from scratch after three years of development. Extremely light and robust, it is exquisitely constructed, supported by a highly skeletonized grade 5 titanium baseplate and its engine supported by bridges made of titanium and Carbon TPT®. A paragon of efficiency, it offers a power reserve of 70 hours, with 2 hours of movement on the dial in 5N PVD titanium. o'clock position display. The quality of this energy can also be seen via the torque indicator on the second dial. A final indicator for the selected function completes this instrument panel. replica Urwerk UR-101 T-Rex
The eccentric tourbillon escapement with its titanium frame brings remarkable kinetic energy to the watch, enhanced by the innovative active seconds display, which uses five radial blades and is read via a 12-second index.
Designed by Richard Mille together with long-time partner Audemars Piguet Le Locle (APLL), the RM43-01 calibre brings several improvements to the rattrapante mechanism. Through intensive research and development and computer simulations, a new generation of components has been developed to optimise power consumption while providing a more consistent level of torque throughout the power reserve.
Salvador Arbona, Richard Mille's Technical Director of Movements, explains: "As a movement manufacturer, our work is becoming increasingly scientific, which helps us create more durable and better performing components. ”
From micro-components to material selection, every element of the RM 43-01 Ferrari Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph has been subjected to performance considerations, just as with any Ferrari car. Inevitably, every design decision impacts the integrity and technical capabilities of a specific component. Extensive shock testing, simulations and in-depth research ensure that every component meets Richard Mille's exacting standards.
A true tribute to Ferrari's heritage, the RM 43-01 Ferrari Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph combines iconic design with unrivalled performance.
